Course Description

  • Two-Year Classical Arabic Course -- Building the foundations to access classical Islamic texts

The Classical Arabic course is a structured two-year course designed to give students a strong foundation in the Arabic language and prepare them to confidently access classical Islamic texts.

By the end of the course, students should have acquired a solid grounding in Arabic grammar and a substantial working vocabulary, enabling them to begin accessing classical Islamic texts with guidance and providing a strong foundation for further study in our Classical Texts course.

Course Outline

  • The programme primarily follows the renowned Madinah Arabic Books, providing a systematic study of Arabic grammar, vocabulary, sentence structure and reading comprehension. Alongside the core textbook, carefully selected supplementary resources, exercises and reading materials will be used to reinforce and enhance learning, develop translation skills and gradually expose students to the language and style of the classical Islamic tradition.

Throughout the two years, students will progress from foundational Arabic to reading and analysing increasingly complex passages, with particular emphasis on developing the skills required to approach traditional works of Fiqh, Aqida, Hadith, and other Islamic sciences.
