The Author
One of the great translators of our generation, Sheikh Nuh Ha Mim Keller has devoted decades to the mastery of Arabic and English alike. His translation of Reliance of the Traveller remains the standard English rendering of a classical Islamic legal text. He embraced Islam in 1977 and converted formally at al-Azhar in Cairo, then studied Shafi'i and Hanafi jurisprudence, creed, and hadith under leading scholars in Syria and Jordan. He was authorized as a sheikh in the Shadhili path in 1996, and teaches and writes from Amman, Jordan.
Use and Recitation
The Quran Beheld is designed for sustained, repeated engagement. It is not a reference work to consult occasionally, but a companion to live with. The Arabic-English edition suits those who recite in Arabic and wish to deepen their understanding of what they are reading, with facing pages that let the reader move between the two languages naturally. The English editions suit daily reading, study circles, and gifting. And the subject index makes it possible to approach the Quran thematically, to look up answers on what the Book says about patience, about provision, about death, and more.
